Sludge comes primarily from water treatment plants, soil remediation projects, operational or dragging works and various industrial production processes. Given that it can range from relatively inoffensive to heavily contaminated, the correct treatment is decided upon according to its composition.
The sludge undergoes a series of physiochemical or biological processes. After separation and filtration, the residue is used as a fuel and the treated water can be poured away safely.
